I went comparing prices for mobile phones and contracts going to the site of each major operator in Sweden (5 of them). Now all I get is ads for mobile contracts. It's a bit disconcerting how much we are tracked these days... :(

anyone ever hear of noscript.net fixes firefox flash and java ads so I am told. fre prog too!

adblock is enuf, noscript just makes things more complicated.

it also blocks the flash ads an is a 1 click complication :)
besides its free ...

noscript seems to be a little too heavy duty for my uses.

Adblock + Flashblock does well enough

The ads we serve actually include a feature called "remarketing".

Remarketing is the technical term for remembering the sites and content you visit and serving you ads based on your browsing history if a relevant advertiser is signed up for Google AdWords. For instance, I go to newegg.ca a bunch and I get a lot of ads for Newegg -- especially around the holidays. Sometimes if I had looked at specific products, I'll get an ad reminding me of that product with a link right to it.

So make of that what you will, Patty. ;-)

Back when we first started putting ads on Boxcar after ES went down, the ads were served to you based on the content of the page. So that lead to lots of great ads depending on the topic of a thread + your location :p
