Many threads over the years have proposed and debated the idea of a missile market.

Pretty much everyone agrees it would destabalize what game balance there is left on earth.

That said, it is fun to talk about a missile market.

One idea i had was to make bought missiles different from self produced missiles. I was thinking the bought missiles would do less damage AND that damage would be duplicated on the sender. That way, munchkin countries could buy some missiles to whack a giant, but would get obliterated in the process. Giant countries could buy a big bag of missiles and smash or kill a munchkin while takiing only modest damage. This might limit soome excesses.

Fun to consider, but it will never happen.

You could probably make missile market balance-able if you fixed a few game constants.

Would be interested to see how that would play out but a large set of changes like that would require close monitoring and several iterations of tweaks to those changes for a few resets after. And because I doubt that will happen I'm also against it.

Perhaps the game moderators could expirament by trying this out for just ONE round on the alliance server. Just to see if all of the doomsday scenarios really happen - or if the wild conspiracy theories will be put to bed. Really: what could it harm to expirament for just ONE round?

You've answered your own question. You expirament with the most players and most time during a reset in order to get a nice big set of data to see all of the effects. If you play it on a server that only lasts a week and only has 10 players- you won't have as much data/results to look at. And experimenting on Alliance server will accomplish this.

100m is quickly earned, grab unlucky player with stocks (all or partial) at home and sell at 29-35 in priv mkt and you can buy many shiny missiles.

If I thought there was a chance of this happening, I'd take the time to model out the EE economy and figure out a good price floor for them rather than people just throwing out numbers. I think DP's idea has the most merit though and would definitely change the way wars are fought in a good way. Instead of going to war on lazy all-x countries people would actually have an incentive to get and keep 50000+ acres

But if there were missiles for sale on the missile market at the time you make the hit (perhaps one waits to make the hit until missiles do show up on the market), then you'd spend cash and shoot missiles until you ran out of cash or turns ... in practice, i think you could probably pass missilies between players using the market. So should missles be available for FA? If you can buy them (and maybe pass them) why not FA them?

I think the balance point is that if you are a big country and want to max missiles, then you need a ton of warfare tech first and then need to run bunches of turns to get those miissiles. Any version of the missile market will tip this over. 4000 acre rainbow countries with max warefare would just make and sell missiles.

yeah but no guarantee of enough missiles on market as it would be publicly supplied. and you would have the same rules in place as other commodities only able to sell a portion at a time, or make it you can only sell 2 of each at a time regardless of amount on hand to completely prevent both scenarios with 4-5 hour market times as the norm.

then you won't get any at that price.... it should be like I said 1,000,000,000,000 / land, when you put your missiles up for grab you don't get to set a price you get whatever is paid for by whoever bought it based on their land minus commission value. Then if you implement a 2 missile limit per dump thats about 12 missiles a day max you can sell of each type or 36 total per day which is still a good chunk of cash making a new viable wargaining strat if your avg buyer is 50k acres thats 720,000,000 per day in sales at 20m per missile, 10m if they are 100k acres or 200m if they are 10k acres. this will slow down suiciders relying on missiles and allow netters to fight back against suiciders as well.

because if you allow a person to set the price for the missile it will be abused there must be a fixed system in place that will adjust the price based on the buyer otherwise someone will just run a missile buying suicider.

If we follow something close to what I suggested they would need to have land first to make it viable to buy over producing, 5k acres is 95,000 warfare points even at 4k$ each thats 380m, at 5k acres they could buy just short of 2 missiles with that.

If you have low acres and try to buy more missiles than your acreage allows, setup an instability variable (probably set to 5% chance/turn at first, and can be lowered by how much warfare you currently have) where your missiles over cap can blow up, or basically nuke/cm/em yourself.

How do we know that will happen, unless we try for one round and see? Also we could do sales of cruise missiles only.
