happens on all pages in Ie8 on this computer now, for forums or game

IE8 works on my other laptop

both are winxp, so not sure what the problem would be, tried clearing cache and all that

downloaded chrome, which works on this comp for the game though

Is boxcar and EE hosted on the same server/ location?

No, boxcar is hosted somewhere else; Evolution2025 & EE are co-located though

Same error here.

Cannot connect or something to:
http://page,etc.

Operation Aborted.

Happening way too frequently. Also, if i've got empires in a tab which i usually do, i have to close the tab and reopen it, won't let me just click EE again to open it as another box will pop up saying its busy.

deepcode: clarify

llaar: having it happen on both boxcar and EE suggests something on your end; unless it's godaddy related, as I think that's the only thing we use in common... but unlikely

Pretty much the exact same thing happening to llaar, pop up alert box and all. EE and boxcar now.

I was saying that the client window/tab gets stuck as if a script or something is holding it. I would try to just click into favourites to reopen EE and another box pops up, forget the exact words but it basically said that it was busy, so i'd have to close that window/tab and reopen another one.

does that busy thing to me too. says are you sure you want to close the page, it is busy. and i have to close the whole browser because nothing will work again after i get that operation aborted message

glad someone else is getting it, sure is weird

http://blogs.msdn.com/...to-operation-aborted.aspx

odd.. microsoft says this error was removed from IE8 and happened in IE7

why am i getting it in IE8 then...

also:

"This window is busy.
Closing this window might cause some problems.

Do you want to close it anyway?"

is what i get when i try to close the browser after i get the operation aborted error

ok.. i think i found the problem

from reading this:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...78-4e64-aa6c-b83cb26e110d

it made me realize that i did recently install AVG anti virus which added an addon to IE.

i forgot about that because right after i installed it, my power cord died, and i was without laptop for 2 weeks, and then when i got new power cord and went to play, i started getting this odd error. i went to manage IE addons, disabled it and cleared cache, and now i no longer get the error

after figuring this out myself i googled it a bit:
http://romenlaw.blogspot.com/...9/05/ie8-avg-problem.html

and found a couple other sites that seemed to hint at problems with avg and IE8

if you have avg deepcode try disabling the ie8 addon, thats my best guess

and i'll see if this error pops up again for me now... hope it doesn't

blaaah this is why I *HATE* anti-virus programs; you can't just get a SIMPLE anti-virus that will just update and JUST SCAN WHEN YOU TELL IT TO or SCHEDULE that doesn't sit there and fluff up everything while consuming 30% CPU

I tried comodo because somebody recommended it in terms of performance... and i've tried Avast & AVG..... all of them are resource hogs; and then there's things like McAffee & norton.... those are just giant POS's

How hard can it really be? Something like spybot S&D really....

Gotta love new age software with built in scripting and addons and the convoluted mess they create. Just another vector for malware. Couldnt the bloody developers just create the basic functionality for video/audio and leave it at that? Blah.

Macro vx gonna be the wave of the future ;)

I dont run any AV, maybe I messed with IE's settings, i restored them to default, hopefully that will fix it. If not, probably some spyware. Speaking of which, I should remove all the addons sitting there right now.

edit:
Oh and the best AV's as far as i'm concerned are heuristic engines that'll run on demand for unknown code and a proper integrity based system on known binaries. Course, that type of system doesn't lend itself well to the whole corporate concept of repeat business and "updates" heh.

edit2:
after reloading everything, i got the error again. So naturally, i moved on over and downloaded mozilla. Nuts to IE and its incessant issues :)

I use, Anti Vir, Spybot search and destroy, and spyware blaster. Never had any problems :)

Also I used to run a linux machine for the internet.
