Allies just gives people a mandate for team play in a solo-server.

GDI can give a defense bonus to help recover the style of gameplay where people tend to have d allies but not o allies.

Implementation could be based on
-Percentage (so d allies could up to double your defense but realistically 50% would be your bonus if your allies were your size which is the highest I'd want to make a defense bonus... would counter-act PSing at least)
-Flat contribution, maybe 300-500k turrets worth of defense - would allow people protection while getting settled yet not be too much of a contribution later on
-As if you had a defense ally with a fixed amount of defense so at low defense levels it doubles your defense but at higher levels it becomes a fixed contribution.

This change would help to eliminate the clan-mate intervention that seems to have at least one fiasco each round by eliminating any basis for acting on someone's behalf. This is supposed to be a solo server so by my understanding so this would help maintain the current gameplay while removing the unwanted elements.

Defense bonus could be at 40%

Again no o/d allies to help you break

Defense bonus resets every time you attack and you gain 0.5% every turn :)

would be interesting :)

I agree with the general idea of this very strongly. GDI could even boost D at the cost of offense (say by a 25% factor both ways)...

thats not what Detmer meant Bobby

basically you join GDI for a "def bonus" up to a certain amount when attacked.

i'm not sure about a flat contribution though, but maybe you could give GDI command of 0%-x% of your units and the more units you give them the more defense you get when hit yourself.

the units send to GDI could/should be destroyed when helping defending member countries and there could be a pool of units under GDI command, meaning if i'm the only country in GDI, there are only my units in the pool and i get no additional def when attacked

GDI = UN troops?

hmmmm
If that is how is going to work, then Giving Units to GDI should give other bonuses.

If you are a LARGE contributor to the GDI, you should get -1% on market commissions, and +1% bonus on luck, 2% PM regeneration and -2% building cost. :P

Also as you are a large contributor to the GDI standing units, you get 10% defense bonus (TOPS) or none at all.

Normal Bonuses for all countries on GDI, are a +25% Defense flat rate, losing all defense bonus when you attack and gaining 1% every 2 turns (every hour of no attacks?)

So Countries that give lots of units, lose their defense bonus, but get some advantages in others fields, while those that just want to milk the GDI for defense, lose it when they attack.

Also Countries on GDI that attack 1 country for more than 3 times a Day, would lose their GDI bonuses for 72 hours :)

What do you people think?

hmm... losing the bonus when attacking and gaining it slowly back is interesting

the rest is overkill imo :P

We could make GDI like the only def allies so when someone in GDI is attacked you lose some fractinal amount of forces. GDI is so big though that everyone would get double bonuses and your losses would be so distributed as to be negligible. You could get randomly paired with two other GDI countries for defense but I don't like random factors and it would just serve to make everyone send double which then GDI might as well just be a 200% defense bonus.

I personally favor GDI giving a 50% defense bonus or being treated as a defense ally with a fixed amount of defense.

spawn I was suggesting my own way GDI could affect defense...

This thread has given me the idea that it could be interesting to have multiple "international" groups that a country could either align or not align itself with. This seems to be a possible way to make solo server a solo environment while still allowing for increased interaction and discussion about the solo server.

Just as one example of what I potentially mean: How fun would it be to have a UN which might levy sanctions on people who farm too much (ie UN members aren't able to buy that countries goods on the public market, etc.) Could be very fun I think...

yeah :p

is what I had in mind, but is actually very good if you have more than one that can be joined

UN type GDI with market sanctions to those that farm, and improved defense bonuses

Corporate Conglomerate GDI that gives 2 fluffs about how much you farm, but has less defense bonuses than UN... and so on

will post more later... class is starting :)

the idea of allies was to get friends involved and stuff though... it'd be cool if you could integrate facebookness somehow...
Finally did the signature thing.
