If none of the developers are doing anything (or just too busy to do anything); release the code and let people take a shot at patching things up to help improve the game. The game admins can still stay in control of what is implemented, OR you may even see new forks pop up.

Its not like the game devs are in this for any kind of financial benefit.. who cares if the code isn't the 'prettiest'. At the very least it could be an inspirational piece for budding software developers to study/build off of.

No, I don't think they used TC's code for his Earth clone. I would never want to build off THAT code. :P

no, everything we wrote is original code, nothing is in JS at all. All PHP.

I don't think we'll be open sourcing it either. If we did, We'd just start seeing illegal clones popping up, improved methods to overcome our security, and a plethora of other problems.

It was discussed early on and determined that it's not viable to make this project open source.

That being said, both qz and I are getting back into the swing of things a bit more. I've been playing with code more lately, and I've been in touch with Tavi about some new design work to coincide with the updates we have planned.

Also, while we're not in this "for financial benefit", we do need to run the project to create revenue/profit. We do have costs (hardware, bandwidth, domains, marketing, etc) so while we're not in this to try and line our pockets with money, the idea of running a project that is itself profitable is pretty much required.

This is a hobby project, but we treat it as if it was a business. I think we would all like to work on EE full time; it's just not currently in the cards.

oh also, I should add... if we have any lotto winners or people who have a ton of money and you want to give me and qz some to work on EE full time, I'm sure we could work that out :p

as for open sourcing.... there are some basic routing+framework bits we have partially open sourced with a buddy of mine that i'd like to further open source; but nothing related to the actual game...
