The second round of a new non-clan server (Conquest) starts on June 1. Could be worth a look if you prefer the non-clan game servers.

The new conquest server is definitely worth a shot. It's like Primary (player-only solo server), but with a liquid public market (provided by bots in their own sandbox).

Oof, feel like last time I played Classic/Primary it did have a liquid public market but yeah player count is frighteningly low here now. Lots of old cool players I miss but I only ever chatted with them through the game and forums so I can't call them back.

Vic, oldman, crest23, Xinhuan, herbs12, Rob, Tmac, Reroll, to name a few... but obviously what the game really misses most of all is a mass of weaker players to fill out the rank and file of a game. I guess bots can go a ways to replacing that, especially if they ever got the ability to retal, but it would never quite be the same playing with simulated opponents. Like imagine it's you and a couple other guys left competing against a field of 200 ghosts. It can feel like acting out a game instead of playing a game.

bring in bots and have them attack the best netters to give us low level netters a chance to win hehehe like hit vic and lightbringer

The bots are great if you can somehow have enough of them where you still get good 1k acre grabs without every bot being in 10 DR with 70 acre grabs. The amount of new players who have their gaming experienced ruined by being farmed by vets vastly outweighs the several weirdos who will fixate on and no doubt cry about bots existing and not bothering them. As soon as the sharks see a n00b your getting swarmed. I don’t know the math on this but I would assume if there were 1 million bots on express and only 2000 turns per set, it would be impossible for the small grabs to be an issue.

Big grabs are the most fun part of the game too. Which doesn’t exist when your getting farmed or everyone has been farmed already.

biggest problem i faced this round was lack of LG targets. the numbers are dwindling and its so hard to bottom feed. i have a list of guys that i dont dare hit cuz i know they will retal lol

you should play classic and adopt of policy of farming all jet retalers!

theres a few dudes who have retaled me with 40m jets and they are so happy to break me and then they login the next day to a bunch of SS's and a few PS RORs

That's the one. All jetters deserve no respect and I farm any that try to "retal" me.

Forget exactly but I was probably like 12m jet:4.5m turret ratio or so when I retaliated on a guy who then went to farm me this round. I was 400 turns behind and still hit him back within only a few days, he just made a bad grab imo. I don't think it worked out very well for him or the other player who tried it. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and admit to yourself you made a mistake. Land is scarce and we may make risky hits against competent players, that of course makes sense, but retaliating is also how someone playing from behind can opportunistically gain their own land and demonstrate to others that it's not worth hitting them. I'll agree that I don't like countries putting all reason aside and gunning for retals to their own deep detriment, in that case they also should perhaps swallow their pride some.

Sounds like you have much in common with an all jetter then!

On non-clan servers, a "retal" needs to be enforced by the strength of the country making the hit because there's no clan ready to back them up. If you hit me, you better have the strength to back that up. The most common form of weakness is all jetter countries with a poor foundation whose entire defense is GDI. Some players seem to think that they don't need spies, turrets, or war techs because no one will want to hit them more than once. I'm more than willing to disabuse them of that notion, and I suspect that Superfly agrees with what I'm saying.

I don't play on Classic so maybe it's different here, but Superfly does seem to be performing well enough with his current policy.

It goes both ways. If you're going to attempt to farm someone over their retal, you have to be able to defend yourself well or your own finish is going to go up in smoke. It may be a situation of mutually assured destruction, and if it is, by breaking GDI you are the one pulling that trigger. Are you pulling it out of principle? How bad does the jet:turret ratio have to be, or how poorly does your own set have to be going, for you to make that decision? I guess we all have our lines but "jetter" is a pretty broad one.

Well sure, there's some risk to it. Consider something like someone sending a taunting a message after making a "retal". What do you do in response? Some players would ignore it and some players would automatically go to war. I don't think there's a single right answer.

You can view defends on the ee site but not attacks. Third party sites still have the data. They just need to show it.

i play to either win by making top 10 or to win by crushing my enemy. either way, fun and beers will be had regardless of outcome.
