He was a great Canadian icon and one of the best ambassadors hockey has ever had.

Fun fact: Wayne Gretzky chose #99 to double up on Gordie Howe's #9.

The man for whom they named the greatest single game achievement in hockey -

THE GORDIE HOWE HAT-TRICK!

1 Assist
1 Major-Fighting (usually a win)

I had the pleasure of living near him growing up, only a couple miles away. One of my good friends lived across the street from him so we would see him and talk to him quite often when we were outside. He wasn't just a great hockey player, he was a good guy as well.

it's been a sad week in sports. Gordie was one of the truly greats.

I'm sure they'll have a memorial service for him in Detriot that will be attended by the hundred or so fans they have left for hockey there,

Cerb, plz. Detroit has one of the biggest fan bases in the world.
Tis a tragic loss, but it's impressive he lasted as long as he did with the struggles he's had over the last decade. Truly a sporting legend and a great ambassador for the sport, playing competitively in 5 different decades is insane. RIP Mr Hockey. LGRW.

All day i sit in my machine at work and then listen to news talk radio. Friday WAS going to be a day all about Ali and his passing/life. Instead I got stories about Gordie and how proud he was to be a Saskatchewan boy.

A typical story: after gordie went into the corner with someone he said "hey kid, youre lucky youre from saskatchewan."
