it was initially implemented many years ago to reduce server load. That isn't really an issue anymore but people like the bonus turns:P

I believe it was initially implemented to keep martian away from the game for longer periods of time.

It's also to give an incentive to not endlessly market-camp....

I don't like it that the "humanitarians" can interfere with my plans for global domination while I'm running a dictatorship government. What's the point of running a dictatorship when your population can screw you with strikes, and demand tax rebates. All tax rebates should be paid in bullets in a dictatorship.
