It is based on the old game.

The old game was shut down, a few players banded together and wrote this game from scratch

there is a extremely active developer and moderator team, and they are making great changes to the game

the list of changes is rather extensive, but include

changes to military tech
changes to Special attack returns
changes to login portals
return of ghost acres
and many more

Mehulaed sold the game years ago to a gaming company called "jolt"

they mainly bought it for utopia, which was much more popular than earth. But the purchase blew up in their face. They attempted to improve Earh slightly, but found that the coding was rediculious. The game got stagnet and was losing money

on top of that, massive botters started hitting utopia, like what happened in earth back in the day.

Jolt finally decided to shut down earth

pang, slagpit, and qzjul, with the help of others, wrote this game rather quickly and it has been up and running for what, about a year? Maybe more

Pang & I first discussed collaborating when I started EvoGT w/ NukEvil and he started Boxcar with TC... but we were moving in different directions at that point so nothing really happened; off and on after that we discussed cloning earth, given Jolt/OMAC were not really being good to the game.... we even created a forum for that effort on boxcar in summer last year but it didn't really catalyse much other than ideas... but when the announcement was made they were closing the game, pang & I got in touch rapidly, and within the day we had the preliminaries set up...

3 weeks later (and 24 hours after earth's EC shut down) we launched EE :)

ya, it's been lots of effort to get the game going from lots of folks and we thank everyone for their help :)

We're finally getting things done to be able to start the marketing campaign going. Developers have all gotten much busier IRL (I got a new more time consuming job and am still working on my thesis primarily, qz has the exact same stuff on his plate -- only 2 time zones back :p Slag and Nuk are busy with chopping down forests and lizard attacks, respectively)

December 7th, 2009 -- a date which will live in infamy -- was the first day the game was opened to the public. Just in case people are wondering when the game did actually start.

Hm I don't remember the day that Jolt/OMAC announced the closure... though it's probably on the jolt forums where we could look it up

Earth - Announcement

Dear Earth Players,

It is with a collection of heavy hearts that we report that Earth: 2025 will soon be coming to an end. For some time now it has been a constant struggle to keep this game running on what is extremely old architecture, and the problems have just been getting exponentially worse. Sadly, it has finally reached the stage where the game has simply become impossible to maintain any further.

We will continue to maintain each server until the end of the respective rounds, but after that the servers will be shut down. The end of round dates are as follows:

Tournament- November 5th
Limited- December 9th
Council- December 9th
Primary- December 17th
Alliance- December 17th

It is truly regrettable that such an historic game must meet this fate, but there is no longer any other viable option. It's been a pleasure to be involved in this magnificent game and we wish you the best in your future gaming endeavours. We hope to one day return to this game with an entirely new version and you will hear from us when this happens.

How many of you played earth when it was on http://www.eesite.com? Then it switched to http://www.swirve.com I was one of the first few to play the game when it was in beta, me and my brother used to play earth nonstop.

i never even heard of eesite.com play back in 2025 times

I started at Solariagames, played bit at Eesite and came back when Earth2025 was at Swirve.

I haven't played for a few years so i'm having a little trouble finding a good strat.
