We'd love to be able to make EE our full time jobs, but unfortunately that's not in the cards, and at the moment all the core contributors to the EE code are pretty busy with work/school/both so we're not focusing on it as much as we'd like.

That being said, what you're saying is exactly what we want to do -- update the in-game design, get the recruiting efforts underway and in general bring the game up to the high standards that we know everyone has. That work is coming, but unless one of us happens to win some sort of lottery, we can't dedicate the kind of time and effort to growing the game that we'd like to. Also, keep in mind that it takes a fair bit if effort just to maintain the existing game.
