I think you're right crest. There's no "limited" war. And when Cable smashes someone he does it completely, thats a good example. I enjoy this game, there's always more to learn.

Same with you having a problem with ppl (like bibigon/CROATIA) TFing people. They have solid defenses and can get away with TFing some of the time. They're bettering their country by hurting ones ahead of them, especially ones with more jets than turrets. It's the same thing as what you did with oldman no?

I believe most of my shock about your RORs the last few sets was over the fact that you were in position to at least challenge for the win and gave it away, because even if those countries were weaker than you, they were obviously capable of dishing out some damage in war, as they did. So I was just shaking my head watching your countries go down. But maybe you don't care, maybe you have a little bit of that Gogy/Bibi streak in you that just doesn't care. I have a little bit of that at times as well, but probably not over a retal. Btw I don't have a 'moral' objection or w/e to how bibigon plays, but it's just annoying, what can I say. He always hits me, hit me again this set, ramps up his def to make it hard to retal even though long-term I'm going to be the much bigger country. He's a better player than Gogy though. I think Gogy just lives to make the biggest landgrabs possible, and for no other reason. Dishes out set-crippling land grabs, just because it makes his eyes light up haha. Those guys are what they are.

[quote poster=Xinhuan; 30315; 564079]I'm not sure the argument of whether it is "sportsmanlike" is even a good one.

[Example A: Market-spy undercut]
Take for example, I market spied Serp to see what he priced his final resell units at, with the full intent to undercut him. Which I did. Now, is this a sportsmanlike behavior? By undercutting him, I made my finish slightly better, and his finish slightly worse. Would you do the same thing?

[Example B: Blid-oldman]
Is this similar or different from stealing cash from a player that you know deliberately dropped to zero spies to better your finish and make his worse?

[Example C: Classic topfeed]
Is this similar or different from topfeeding a player to make your finish better, and his worse?

How would you rate whether it is sportsmanlike in each example?
[/quote]

Disclaimers - My opinion remains solely mine. I am not asking for anyone to agree with me.

In example A, you are using information you gained from your op to better your finish while hoping to lower your opponent's without physically hurting your opponent i.e. spend turns to steal/raze/destroy etc. Going back to my analogy on a running race - you found out that your opponent bought a good pair of running shoes. So you went out and bought a better one. It's generally accepted in this case.

I explained example B in my previous post.

I don't know why you even brought up example C. Topfeeding is generally frowned upon anyway. You yourself even said that topfeeding doesn't benefit your own country in any way most of the time. So I don't see how this example is valid here. It is annoying and of course unsportsmanlike. I will actually go as far as saying it's stupid.

Again, I would like to reiterate that nobody is right or wrong. I have my own standards and so do you. My standards are right to myself and yours are right to yourself.

DOESN'T REALLY LOOK LIKE IT. THIS RESET THE TOP 10 FINISHED WITH 509K ACRES, LAST RESET WAS 544K. ONLY ABOUT A 7% DROP. OF COURSE, THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF FLUCTUATION FROM RESET TO RESET ANYWAY, SO THERE'S NO WAY TO EVEN TELL WHETHER THAT DROP WAS CAUSED BY THE DR CHANGES.

ONE THING I REALIZED I LIKE ABOUT THE CHANGE, IS IT SOMETIMES PROTECTS THOSE AT WAR FROM FARMING. SOMEONE WHO EATS 40 ARTILLERY BARRAGES CAN'T BE IMMEDIATELY FARMED BY EVERYBODY IN THE GAME 24.0001 HOURS LATER.

ONE THING I DON'T LIKE: WHILE IT PROTECTS THOSE AT WAR FROM OUTSIDE FORCES, IT ALSO PROTECTS ONE FROM THE OTHER. THE VICTOR OF THE WAR HAS A HARDER TIME CLAIMING THE SPOILS THAN PREVIOUSLY.

I THINK IN MY CASE, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE CHANGE OUTWEIGHS WHAT I DISLIKE ABOUT IT.

I really do like the spirit of the change, flattening out the DR instead of making it a sharp drop from 20 to 0. But I think it's just a bit over-complicated, I don't like DR being kind of a mystery, I wish if I searched a country# in-game it would just tell me the DR...

Notes:
A) The above is deduced from a combination of country owners from public profiles, personalities and T100 TNW changes.

B) I do not track TNW changes outside T100, even though the data is available, Countries without listed owners have lifetime Primary TNWs lower than 207m NW, which is the current 100th in TNW.

C) dexsydcol's username was renamed from vilesilencer.

D) <Deleted, AzNiZe's country is now identified.>

E) Apart from AzNiZe, mac23 is the only other new player in the t100 TNW. Together, the 2 of them pushed out Carnifex and Hikago.

F) Of all the Unlinked Accounts in the t100 TNW, only 2 of them changed in NW this set. One is unidentified, the other is BiBiGoN.

my finish wasn't worse at all Xin. My $185 turrets did sell.... Just had to wait til the last few min though. Also I did have some $175 jets that sold about a half hour earlier. All it did was make me wait til the final 5 mins.

That's nothing wrong, its just trying to make sure you sell before me.

I think what blid did was completely reasonable. That should come as no surprise tho, since I topfed oldman in the last week of the set a few sets ago to get the cash he had on hand (he went decay and had something like 20B+ on hand). (Basically example C from above I guess)

Running a race is intended to be non-contact. That makes this a poor analogy, unless you start talking about crossing into someone else's running lane. I personally believe the hockey analogy about pulling the goalie is far more appropriate.

However, I think the best analogy available comes from the world of baseball. Earlier this year, during an Astros/A's game, Jed Lowrie attempted to bunt his way on base. It was still the first inning and his team was up 7-0 at that point. The Astros had a severe shift on, and he attempted to take advantage of it by laying down the ball in a part of the field where nobody was patrolling. Bo Porter, the manager of the Astros, did not respond kindly to this. After the At Bat completed, he actually came out of the dugout to yell at Lowrie for breaking what he considered to be one of baseball's unspoken rules. Lowrie responded by saying that it was the 1st Inning still and there was a lot of baseball left to be played. In his next AB, the Astros Pitcher threw behind him twice (but never plunked him...).

Personally, I can see both sides of the story. The A's wound up winning handily, 11-3, and at 7-0, the game was already well in their control. On the flip side, there was a lot of baseball left, and the Astros at one point in time were just one swing away from cutting the lead all the way down to 2. This is a gray area, and I don't think either thought process was necessarily wrong.

At the end of the day, the shift put on by the Astros, while increasing their odds of success, left them vulnerable to certain types of attacks, and the A's attempted to capitalize on it.
And, Monsters, do not forget to specify, when time and place shall serve, that I am an ass.

Yeah, that's a pretty good comparison, except that it's obviously ok to bunt into the shift, sounds like that dispute was more about doing it while already up 7-0.

well, read about all that's said. Interesting analogies, fun facts and cool stats.

I am not against anything that blid, oldman or any other player doing similar antics/acts/moves.

What kinda annoys me here is that Blid taking a cheapshot to take the lead (from what I perceive, Akin to topfeeding or any other form of acts). Coming from Blid.. and what he has been claiming/exposing players who "cheat" and manipulate gameplay the past resets, was like WTF. If it was Xinhuan, Rich or any other player doin it.. I would have accepted it..

Hey blid, I AM NOT OBSESSED with YOU ! :p

Anyhow, hats off to Blid to for letting us know. Not many I know would have come clean and told everyone. Taking smack and defending his opinions.

Good game play, I learnt quite a bit from just reading how to finish the reset and maximize turns, bonuses and a little ops here and there can do to move up ranks.

Cheerios.

P.s. thanks for the list Xin, awesome as always.

I was about to post whether Ka Mac and mac23 are the same person, because contextually, the posts didn't make sense if they were the same person. :P

P.S: No need to quote the entire posts, you should cut out the irrelevant portions.

Yes, yes, and... but that time he had defense, at least- he had defense to protect it. This time- this time he had nothing... he sold it all, so he could have more... a gambler... This was clean, there was no- no collateral damage. No destroyed buildings, or, no destroyed military. Nothing destroyed- it- it was only transferred, from the gambler... to- to the one calling his bluff. But he... yes, he didn't react too kindly. Yes, maybe he is defending his right to run zero spies in the future, defending not with spies but with a hostile response to thieving.

Dang, topfed the top player when you had started 10 days late? Were you still trying to maximize your score even though you missed 10 days?
