Just found the game. I played Earth 2025 back in the Swirve days (and a bit prior, whatever that company was).
Back in the day, you didn't pay expense on items once you sent them to the market.

Is that still the case? I can't really tell.

You pay expenses on them until they sell. You don't lose food from them while on the market though.
