I feel like the tech market wants to go higher, but sellers aren't pricing appropriately given the signs. We've had a few buyouts on business and residential already, yet the next day it still has large blocks priced less than other types which did not sell out.

That's a market for ya!

The tech market was WEIRD. The prices were super low most of the time, but every now and then would get bought out or close to it, so tech was selling at higher prices, but new tech priced much lower was hitting the market right behind it. I was trading tech on a 500-1000 spread for the last few days of the set.

I got my best finish to date, both in ranking and NW. Started out as a techer, resold a bunch of tech, converted to cash around turn 1150. All-x, except for one retal.

Need the cash to trade, that is a given. Express requires a lot more frequency and time due to the pace at which turns are accrued. I log in a few times a day to play, a bit more on Sunday if I'm not busy with something else. It's a different animal for sure.

If you think you can RoR without leaving your backside wide open, then go for it. Due to the generous protection of GDI on express, I find this is rarely the case. Once you break GDI, you now have to worry about troops, tanks, spal, and SDI. Not something you can quickly ramp up to if you have ignored all set. If he is high on used turns, has a low spal, doesn't have much military for special attacks, low on cash, low on warfare, and low on missiles, go for it.

The only serious worry I have in this situation is driving off a new player from the game!

You are coming in to express with expectations of what to expect based on play on another server. It's quite different. There is no land trading on express. The cost/benefit analysis of when to grab is different as well, especially when someone is a commie and/or sitting on a bunch of turns.

Stick around for a few more sets before you decide it's not for you!

I've always enjoyed express. If you make adjustments for the difference in game play there is enormous opportunity each week to try new stuff. Basic stuff like learning the nuances of different governments from actual gameplay vs. reading just reading about it on the wiki. I guess one could make this argument for FFA, but I do not have any experience there.

It also helps to read the rules, then read the rules of the express server and come to a conclusion on what adjustments need to be made for adapting to express style. That alone forces one to think about the game and get better.
