if i sell tech at 3k, i get $2830 per unit, and if i buy tech at 3k, i pay $3180 per unit, if the tax rate is 6%? though technically, i want to sell at 5k and buy at 1.

for buy its 3k*1.06 no division or subtraction to figure out tax unless you like to do it the hard way.

damn now that i really think about it tech tax is alot.

I've not tested it recently but I think the seller is taxed, AND the buyer is taxed. If you are both you are therefore taxed twice. I may be wrong so would be good if someone (slagpit maybe?) could confirm...
