Because it's really not that big of a deal....Ebola is dramatic, that's for sure, but in the developed world, it's not a huge issue.

If you want to be outraged about a disease, why not look at the other ones I mentioned, each one of which is easily preventable and still manages to kill tens and hundreds of thousands each year. Ebola kills a small handful and is too virulent to really spread and last.

That last one, measles, was declared eliminated in the US 15 years ago, and yes still managed to enter the country due to unvaccinated AMERICAN citizens.

Some strain of influenza or TB are for more likely. A person should be more afraid of contracting HIV than Ebola (it's because one virus can remain invisible and remain infectious). That crazy 'natural medicine' family that refuses to get their kids vaccinated are a bigger threat.

how many direct flights come from those countries? i would suspect most flights go to europe or somewhere else connecting to the US

I work in the EdTech world and there is a lot of "chatter" going on which is helping to spread the fear. This is a great exercise in psychological warfare. We've already seen the stock market take a hit as well.

We have schools that have closed in TX and OH already. Even districts that are nowhere near any confirmed cases have begun "extra screening" of new students registering in the district and have been sending home letters about the extra precautions.

So you can be a parent in North Dakota and you are getting a letter from your school talking about the precautions they are taking to save your child from Ebola. Yeah, it is a great example of runaway fear.

I'm still flying weekly and my wife works on one of the campuses where they are treating Ebola patients. I'm not worried.

I bet vending machines falling over will kill more Americans this year than Ebola.
