Hello All,

We'd like to announce the following government changes, that we've been debating over the last couple months. Hopefully you'll find some of them interesting :)


Fascism:
Oil bonus will be +75% (up from +50%)

This is basically to improve oilers, obviously, and put some market pressure on non-fasc from holding their own rigs.


Communism:
New Bonus: +35% Market Sale Size

This basically means that you can sell 25%*1.35 = 33.75% of your goods in one sale; this is intended to extend the viability of commie indy further into the set without the need for double or triple selling.


Theocracy
Tech 'bonus' will be reduced to -35% (from -50%)
New Bonus: +50% Maximum Population

This was basically intended to make theo good for something other than just a TMBR finish (reverting the tech bonus); specifically thinking about war, this increases the SDI significantly, and gives a countering pop bonus against CM's. Possible casher strat? It also should increase the competitiveness of TTR vs Tyr Techer


Democracy
'New' Bonus: +10% Maximum Technology

We've decided to reinstate the max technology bonus to diversify democracy again.

just an observation from a player whose favorite server is express

I understand that your rules are primarily for clan games and express is a tiny fraction of the community so this objection does not impact most players

Express currently has the exact amount of turns which strongly favor H countries anyway

H countries routinely win and dominate the top ten in Express

it being self-evident that the natural progression of NW in this game favors Indycoms at first then the theocracies with the republics and finally the democracies finishing best

so in Express strengthening the H platform will just put that server in more of an imbalance than it already is

i do agree that the theo government didn't need any help, as it constantly gets placed in the top 10 of all servers.

but as long as these netters put in some upgrades for wargaining as well as netgaining, i'll not gripe too much.

Most people who win as theo don't play as a theo for most of the set and just jump as one..

u have to do something about dictatorships

either discontinue them or increase their military powers threefold

i hate to be a broken record but

with spies emasculated a 35% stronger betty white just gives us helen thomas

so dictatorships are no longer a fun option to play

and fyi i know two players including the guy who hooked me on this game who played every day for nearly a decade on swirve who dont play anymore because without spies the game is not a challenge
so you may want to rethink your supposition that because spies complicate the game and drive away new players they are bad for the community
i think the more complex the game the more players you will attract

can u imagine a dictatorship winning with the current rules regarding emasculated spies?

no i do not think that having stripped the dictatorship of spies that a massive military advantage is extreme

even with that big an davantage it would be extremely tough to win a set with I

not all of the govts work as Netting Govts.. thats the whole point of having governments.. each has Pros and Cons, which even themselves up in the end..

at swirve i routinely ran dictatorships but never saw one win

the spy strength on this site is as u know dramatically less

impossible to overcome

ya know, when i run a dict, i'm not running it to win networth. i'm running it for spal or for flat out warring. and it performs admirably.

I still have some grabbing to do to reach that 'goal'.

As for netgaining, I don't see the relevance to spy or spy operations. Spending turns spying is quite counterproductive when it comes to netting...

As for netgaining with dicatorship, I think those guys at elitez (marc, newbaby or which ever one it was) won while they were warring MD way back in the day.
