yes, and their calendar dates back to around 500 BCE, which, as I mentioned, is 1000+ years after other calendars had been created

strange, because i see mentions of their calendar going as far back as 2000 BCE

referring to a single calendar does not summarize an entire culture. they had ways of telling time before this system was set in stone. i know you arn't this dense, you have to be attempting to fluff with me.

the only firsthand knowledge i have of the Mayans Chichen-Itza which is mainly postClassic Mayan culture and was late in their reign as a Meso-American civilization, however as i understand they were the more advanced of the Meso-Americans. with the limited cultural interaction they had (unlike Europe and Africa and asia all communicating and sharing technologies and ideals and resources) the Mayan civilization is the most impressive of the ancient ones imo.

no

while i respect the Mayans and their knack for the sciences and calculations, they were still a race with pagan religious beliefs and still heavily relied on the divine to answer the questions they could not answer. Thankfully science is slowly replacing religion on a planetary scale now. It will still take another few hundred years, but we will get there!

december 12th 2012 is an astromical date that occurs something like every 4200 years. the earth and the sun come into alignment with the senter of the milkyway galaxy. expect higher than usual tides. not that i know, but at a guess i would say the additional gravity of the galaxy is probably comparable to the moon because of the inverse square law of gravity with distance. so the tidal flooding will be somewhat equivalent to that of a new moon.

i am speculating a bit here, but am fairly certain of the astronomical significance of the date.

Actually I heard more then just the Myans predict this. I heard something about the Hopi indians as well.

And someone was telling me Nostridmos (SP???) also predicted it.

And another group called Rosenal Christians don't remember the first word they beleive something like solar flares will come from the sun and whipe out all but around 200M people. I saw it on the history channel was only half ass watching. But anyway...
