Figures. She has to be the only female they are not trying to "kidnap" there. Ya, it's not too safe across the boarder and anyone who can is fleeing (or piliging). Maybe a few islands might be fun to stop off at on a crusem, but for the rest of the country you are asking what you get by going there. I bet Ruth is a frequent visitor of Warez, Mexico.

I love Mexico for travelling. You have to be a little extra careful in Mexico City after dark, but no more so than any other big city in the world. Playa, Mazatlan, Cancun, Cozumel, etc are all stellar, although a little bit more on the touristy side than I like personally.

Where you should go really depends on what you like to do on vacation. If you like history/old stuff, go a little further south - the pyramids at Teotihuacan (20 or 30 min from Mexico City) are are absolutely phenomenal. If you want beaches, go with Playa or Mazatlan, or somewhere on the Caribbean side in general - the tourist towns on the Pacific side are nice, but I think the beaches are much better on the east side, and you have access to places like Cozumel or some smaller Caribbean islands as well.
