Wheel of Time was great until the middle (7-11) books, Robert Jordan started going senile and would write whole chapters about bosoms. The beginning and end of the series make it well worth reading though.. can't wait for the last book

We now have a problem with bosoms!? Book 8 should have just been about bosoms! :P

Does anyone actually do that for anything other than refreshing themselves before reading the next book? I'd be disappointed in humanity if so :(

Wheel of time was enjoyable until like book 7, when jordans writing and characterization becomes incredibly redundant (all women are cold, men are clueless, etc.). The last two books have been good though, I think the author change livened it up a bit. Sanderson is a solid writer.

It's certainly no song of ice and fire, but it's an ok read.

It may be no song of ice and fire but at least the books keep coming almost annually. I love asoiaf but if I have to wait another 6-7 years for the 6th book I'll go mad

I can`t correctly bash the a song of ice fire series without giving away its plot, so meh. I don`t even understand why people like it, tbh.

And if people think that Wheel of Time took forever to be write, just look at ASOIF. And Martin doesn`t have Jordan`s excuse.

Jordan had an excuse?(Obviously not referring to the last 3)

Ya this waiting blows. But i'd rather have him release a book he feels good about, then a half finished one just to appease people. Book 5 was a little underwhelming, but still better than anything jordan wrote.

Jordan may have released a ton of books, but he was not as great a writer. Martin is trying to make this series as organic as possible, instead of just throwing random pieces of plot together he's trying to weave a cohesive story that flows from hundreds of characters individual motivations in a completely invented world. That's why people buy his books, he's taken the awesomeness of high fantasy and combined that with deeply defined characters. Tolkien and jordan were world builders, and damn good at it, but the people who inhabited their worlds were more archetypes than individuals. Over 11 books, most of jordan's main characters hardly grow or change, and almost all of his minor characters are blanketed with massive a brush of stereotype. All of his female characters are stubborn, overbearing and arrogant, seriously it's like this guy has only met one woman and decided that's how every one operates.

GRRM is a fluff. He creates these 'deeply defined' characters and then kills them. I can already see it now - the others sweep across westros and kill EVERY LAST PERSON. Greatest troll in high fantasy. EVER.

Meh I preferred about 8-10 of the books to book 5 of Song of ice and fire. To each their own :P

I love The Hunger Games book. The movie was not bloody enough. Sequences of events were changed, and overall, I found it quite bland. The book made me imagine what was going on, whereas the movie made me just go... hmmm. That's it?

Crap books are only imo Crossroads of Twilight and Knife of Dreams (I loved Winter's Heart). He likely already was feeling the effects of the disease that killed him for both of them (certainly the last one).

Martin isn`t realism. It is porn. Only because it is an unusual kind of plot porn doesn`t mean that it isn`t plain old plot porn.

I can`t specify what type of plot porn without giving away his main plot fetiche, though.

Read the books watched the Movie,

I agree, the Movie needed about 20 minutes more dedicated to fully explaining the world and to Character development.

They had to do what they did to keep it PG13, that's understandable, but the above mentioned 20 minutes could have fixed a lot of it.

Well, movies arent exactly designed to provoke imagination, but generally I agree. Not enough blood or focus on the good stuff. Too much wishy washy crap and focus on romance, when thats really a side part of the story, at least for the first section.

This is why i like books more, but im sure it did help knowing what was going on and just dystopic their fluffed up world is. Other than being posh, the only other real indication they were strange was the outfits.

Battle royale was awesomely gory it's not like you can't make a successful movie with lots of gore, they just wanted to target a larger group and make more money. Eh i get that, but it sucks that hollywood has this formula and they sacrifice quality because of it.

I really like these books, but the movie just wasnt all that great IMO. I think the second and third books will translate into better movies.

Also Gore does not equal quality... With the vast majority of people who have read these books being teens it only makes since to make the movie PG-13. Turning it into a gore fest just to please Battle Royale fans makes no since. Tho, BR is a great movie, BR2 not so much...
