i'm too busy at work at the moment to do much of anything besides work. but i'm planning to rewrite the bots whenever I get a block of free time, hopefully in time for the new round.

all of the stupid bullfluff/drama happened at a very busy time IRL so I haven't had time to deal with the fallout as well as I'd have liked.

update: I'm away this week for work, and still incredibly busy.

The best path to getting this fixed quick is for qz to install curl on the server, which I already asked for a few times to no avail, and would mean the old bots would work as-is (well, as-was :p) :-/

recoding it to work properly isn't looking like it'll be something I'll have time for any time soon.

and tbh, i'd rather focus on writing something new than maintaining the current incarnation of something I'm not at all happy with code-wise.

Why ttt, he gave you an answer. He's busy and specifically away for this week. It has been great that boxcar has been available for so long out of the goodness of Pang's heart, but that doesn't mean he owes it to any of us to put in the extra effort if it's not convenient for him.

there's a country on another server Stupid Database (#180), but really it does the check ingame for you when you go to the confirmation screen these days ;)

In all seriousness. WTF banned Trife? Because he TTT'd a topic? Please understand that we play this game voluntarily just like you run this game voluntarily. Just like you mod these boards VOLUNTARILY. One can't survive without the other. I don't excuse Trife being a needy little ho, but I also don't think he should be banned from AT for bringing this stuff up. As far as I know we are still allowed to voice ourselves. Complaints, praises, ignorant "anythings".....as long as we aren't breaking any rules. But if this is just a "leave pang alone" ban, F that. Pang is an adult and it makes YOU look bad that you have to resort to banning people (Analogy: I am losing, so I am going to take my ball and go home. BOO HOO). Especially when Trife being persistent got results.

I think before anyone starts screaming admin abuse at pang for this, it would probably be good to know WHO banned him and WHY.

the only person i've banned in as long as I can remember (other than obvious offenders/bots) is TC.

trife's account isn't currently on the ban list regardless.

I thought it was pretty implied in my post that Pang didn't ban him. At least, I didn't think he did.

sorry for being the only one who had issue with boxcar being down with the same problems that it's had before - ie resetting scores and missing news. i just wanted attention brought to an issue that was affecting hundreds of players, and got the feeling it was being swept under the rug or pushed aside.

there was the chili thread and one other i think i posted it on too, two off topic posts earns a ban? you forum mods must be busy!

i understand why it might not have been a big deal for you/others since i'm sure evo gt/ghq was working just fine, you would've just thought that for the sake of the game these issues wouldn't have taken trife being an annoying fluff to get fixed - since they were problems that pop up very frequently (must know how to fix it by now) and it affected hundreds of game players.

oh, and i understand that it's pangs site, it's free, and it's not part of the game, that i could go use yahoogroups instead if i'm this unhappy about it.

i guess i just didn't think i'd get a 'meh fluff it not our problem' feeling from mutliple game mods/admins and even fellow players when it affected a good number of players/alliances.

when you have the ability to fix something, even if it's not your explicit responsibility/job, some might think it's best to just bite the bullet and do it for the betterment of the game, alliances, and the people involved.

should just use the irc bots to notify you when you're required to do something.

when the casual players have to load 4 different websites and IRC just to be able to function, the player base will shrink.

when alliances have to switch over to a different hosting site, they always will lose members.

what's easier?

finding more players for the game, or fixing 2 problems that have happened before several times?

but i have 0 experience/knowledge about programming and/or running an online game, so i could be completely off and completely clueless, but hell, it makes sense to me. oh well.

i hate to post to this thread yet again, but i need to.

while my desire to have boxcar back up and running for a bunch of earth players (including my own alliance) may have been noble, there were better ways to go about trying to make it happen. and i should've gone about doing so differently.

in regards to this issue, the game mods (qzjul and pang) didn't deserve the harshness of my statements. while things aren't perfect, i truly believe that these two are doing the best they can with the resources that they have available.

in the end i'm just glad things are fixed and back to normal
