The story is a bit long, because it is playing out several experimental scenarios and also going into some background on the psychology, body response mechanisms, interviews with law enforcement, etc.

Summary if you don't watch -- experiments shows that even with more training than most states require for a carry permit, gun holders were totally ineffective and got killed in a shooting incident. Video then explains why, and what to do about it (either not carry or stay constantly in practice with tons of ongoing practice/exercise in stress-based scenarios).

What was the point of the video? To say that someone with a concealed glock will have a hard time drawing it from a seated position against someone who bursts into a classroom shooting? Yes, I could have told you that before they ran the video. What they didn't do was measure the response relative to that of police officers because you would find that they, too, couldn't draw quickly enough.

I am a permit holder although I don't exercise the carry option all that much (mostly when I'm hiking). My first instinct there is to duck. If you have ever shot from a holstered position, you know it's not the wild west and that you stand no chance against someone already in the position firing at you except by blind luck or distance. The second decision you make is if firing will put you or others in harms way. In this case, it's tough attempting to shoot back as it's a room full of people. If the shooter keeps advancing toward you then they have significantly cut the angle down and you're quickly running out of options so then you probably do shoot.

Those kids were all wearing helmets and feeling primed to shoot--so they thought that's what they should do. I'm not sure everyone else would do the same. A more realistic scenario is you're in a store when someone attempts a hold-up of the store clerk. I've known a handful of non-LEO holders whom have been in that position (mostly through old legislative work) and only two have actually drawn. The rest said they didn't draw because of the risk of shooting other customers and hitting the clerk.

Oh, and LEOs get training every two months? Yah, i'm calling bs. Especially for local podunk sheriffs in PA.

One other interesting observation--Danielle in that video sacraficed herself and was able to shoot the intruder. In that scenario, it sure looks like she saved a half dozen folks.

It comes down to performance under stress and how to deal with that (the video hints as much). I can't speak for guns, but having worked as a lifeguard, the only thing that let me do the more serious successful rescues was tons and tons and tons of repetition because what I personally found happened was your brain shuts off and you go into "reflex mode" and follow the steps drilled into your brain.
Going up against someone with a pre-planned strategy and set of actions without having had time to really formulate one of your own drastically lowers your odds in any situation, guns or not.

First off they put ONE person with a big bulky gun wearing a big bulky shirt in the classroom and then they sent in a highly trained marksman who knew EXACTLY who they had to shoot right away and claim that its a realistic scenario. Dumb as fluff.
