I need to rant.
In my life I've owned about 10 phones. Old Nokias. Motorola Pebl and Razr (2). HTC phone. BB Bold 9700 (2). iPhone 4. Nexus 5. I've also owned about 4 laptops. I have NEVER had any technical issues, any accidental damage, ANYTHING gone wrong with anything until like 8 months ago when the flood gates opened.
First, my MacBook Pro's backlight burns out. Cost way too much to replace the display so I figure I can just do it myself. End up destroying the LVDS cable in the process. I was able to return the display, but now the repair is even more expensive because to replace the LVDS cable you have to open the whole thing. Ended up finding a good sale on a touch HP, so I got that instead.
A couple of weeks later, I toss my iPhone onto the couch (like I do 100 times) when I come home. Only this time, I miss the cushion and manage to hit the arm rest. I have no idea how, but the screen COMPLETELY shattered. Gone to bits. I tossed it so gently I was shocked. Glass everywhere.
I buy a Nexus 5. Arrives and everything is great. I put it in a case with a screen protector, and all is well. About February I started noticing small red marks on the screen. I ignore them, but then I figure that I don't want the issue to get worse. I call Google a couple weeks ago and they issue an RMA.
Brand new Nexus 5 arrives last week (Thursday). I take it out of the box, set it all up the way I like, and it works wonderfully. I didn't like my old case, so I ordered a new one. In the mean time, I was using it without the case. Sunday afternoon in the middle of a call my microphone stops working. Since then, the mic hasn't been working. I try troubleshooting to see if this is a software issue, no luck. I'm at work, literally picking the phone up off the desk at lunch to call Google and start another RMA for the mic problem (I've read online that it's pretty common). As I pick up the phone, it slips out of my hand, and lands corner first on the ground. BANG, a nice crack going right down the whole length of the display. Warranty gone. ONE WEEK after taking it out of the box. Case arrived today.
I have NEVER had so much bad luck with technology in such a concentrated period of time. Every single phone or computer that I've had before I've used to the end of their lifetime. In the last 8 months 2 screens crack, and 1 display is shot.
Now I'm trying to find somebody in the GTA who buys damaged macbooks to sell my laptop to. I'm hoping to get the $400 out of it to buy a new Nexus 5. My current phone is fine. The crack in the screen isn't too bad, and I had ordered a tempered glass screen protector off eBay for $5 to use it... but I can't use it without a microphone and I'm not going to walk around with a bluetooth in my ear everywhere I go. It's now basically an iPod with data.
Ugh!
