I will be hosting our annual "shoot fluff" day on October 26. Last year we had something like 45-50 people, and I estimate we put 10,000 rounds down range. This was fairly typical of our shooting days. We are on a secluded property in central virginia. The main attractions last year were an honest to god tommy gun, a sten gun (British ww2 machine gun, fires 9mm) and some tannerite bombs. sorry if i feel that someone promoting a shoot day should be precise and knowledgeable in the firearms they are promoting. something as simple as nomenclature should be mastered long before safety dont you think?

you error on nomenclature quite a bit for someone who advocates firearm recreation, which is fine, but it irks me a little. especially since nomenclature has been a hot button topic recently with the media calling everything a "machine gun" or an "assault weapon" just because of the way it looks. someone who doesnt know the difference probably shouldnt be responsible for organizing a large scale gathering, but that is your right. i feel like you promoting that ignorance is a detriment to gun culture.

Wait, you think I should master the verbiage before the safety? That makes no sense. I never claimed to be an expert, but Jeff Coopers's 4 laws are the gospel on our range. I do not own the firearms I mentioned, others do. They are happy to share them in exchange for getting to shoot on our awesome property. I might not call everything by the proper name every time, but everything I shoot I can and do load and clean, and I can tear down and put back together my own weapon (note - singular). I understand that the media is irksome with the "assault weapon" thing, and the "shoulder thing that goes up," but you won't find any of that mass-produced ignorance at one of our events. Last year we had a Marine Corps small arms instructor give a pistol lesson - he is in law school at UWisc this year so will not attend again, but I think his credentials certainly speak for themselves. The guy who brought the sten and the tommy gun - you know it isn't easy or cheap to get hardware like that. There is a rigorous vetting process. How do you expect people to get better versed in guns and gun culture if you don't show them that guns are fun? And how do you expect them to have fun if you're not being safe? Horse, then cart, my friend.

Additionally, I spend enough effort being an expert in my field of business and have been published in national trade mags. I shoot to have fun, to relax, and to hit the target, not to become an expert.

This offer includes an extension of "friendship by association" with people who will bring and share a huge variety of firearms, some a bit on the exotic side. I am offerin an obviously fun low barrier highly safe entry into shooting for a ton of people, and trust me, this creates a lot of extra residual good gun vibes with others who don't come. Mamy people have changed their opi ion about guns because of positive experiences on my property. You would have us believe my less than perfect firearms vocabulary skillzzz is more important in my overall contributions to the debate around guns. How are these situations not analogous?

Guess what - there is no debate at the event, just people busting caps, into clay pigeons, pumpkins, watermelons, zombie targets, traditional targets, and occasionally Carolinians. It's cool though, we make yall sign waivers first. :P

Someone promoting an event should use factual information in the promotion of said event. I believe this to be even more important when relevant to firearms. My point is that simple. You have displayed a pattern of mistakes in names and classes of guns. I never said cancle the event, i said further educate yourself or atleast make an effort. If you do not agree with that, as you keep turning this into me saying shooting events are bad and other imagined personal attacks, then we have nothing further to discuss.

actually ford raises good points. i recall a maniac in ontario a few years back. he shot i think four people. when asked why he did it he did tell police that somebody on the internet wrongly categorized a seventy year old firearm, so he thought it would be ok.

I lacked precision, but not accuracy. You will note the term "submachine gun" literally means "under machine gun" or possibly "lower machine gun" or even "lesser machine gun." All of these deconstructions of the idiom mean a class of small machine guns. You will note other languages and cultures developed different but similar dialect around these easily portable rapid fire weapons.

Lol. You are correct. Other cultures have similar meanings and development, but if you will notice they all differentiate from simply a machine gun. Your link even mentions this. This is because there are inherent differences, like usually low energy pistol calibers, and pistol like feed and recoil mechanisms along with shorter barrels. It is the sole reason for the classes and nomenclature.

There is a difference, and you know that. Why you are still rationalize this is beyond me. Have fun at your shoot. Learn some fluff while you shoot some fluff, I always try to.
