Of the 500k acres commies have 60% is held by people not in top 20. Military prices are high but they are not that far out of the ordinary. Small countries could effect this as military prices are fairly inelastic. People need military to protect themselves and to grow, thus relatively small changes in production could have a relatively big effect on prices. It's just a thought and it may all be nonsense:P
And isn't the top 20 always dominated by commies at the beginning of a set? I'm not sure how that would be relevant either then.

Except Magellaan, the Commie countries not in top 20 typically have no indy tech, are not even indies, or are only half built as many are batch exploring.

So although they hold 60% of the land, they might maybe account for 30% of the indy production only.

To avoid some penalty that the government they eventually plan to switch to has. And to avoid the penalty for switching governments more than once.

Basically, switching to Democracy means that you spend one extra turn per attack. Seeing as #143 has only been attacking roughly 3 times a day, that is 3 extra turns that could be used for teching instead.

The probably logical conclusion is that 3 turns of teching (over say 30 turns of teching per day after deducting the turns used for building/spying/attacking) is a 10% increase of income, and is almost as good as the potential 12% gain you get by having 0 market commissions. It's not a full 12% gain because if you are a techer, you don't sell everything you tech - you keep a lot of tech for yourself too.

It would probably be better to stay Monarchy if he does 4 attacks a day, and fairly breakeven otherwise on 3 attacks.

Thats not taking into account the higher max tech levels of the demo leading to higher income, better weapons tech and higher gains due to milstrat

Might as well play a demo from the start and get the same land in 3 grab (for similar jets) as a monarchy would in 4 grabs. Then you only lose 1 turn per day from grabs but gain in tech effectiveness and zero market commissions

And if you take spying into account - making one more attack would require at least one more spy op, maybe 2

In that case the demo actually comes out saving turns, no market commissions, higher income, higher effective military strength!

Demos don't get the same amount of land in 3 grabs that a Monarchy can get in 4....

If you had 120% strategy tech, being Demo by raise that to 122%. So you get 2% more land. That's a whopping 20 extra acres if you grabbed 1000a in 3 grabs. You are over estimating the extra 10% tech effectiveness. It doesn't give you 10% more land or 10% more income, or 10% less upkeep. Far from that, it's more like 2%.

Likewise, your 120% weapons might become 122%, so you use 2% less jets and oil. If you have 1m jets now, that is about 20k jets, it's not that much.

Yeah, each hit you do reduces 1Dr. So if you get hit and hit back, you're back to 0Dr.

Yes, normal DR goes back to 0 like what Serp said, but ghost DR stays for 24 hours. So even if a country that is DR1 and grabs another country, he will be 0 DR but still with ghost DR 1.
