I'm tempted to do a Demo-Farmer, I haven't played that in a while and I believe it was that set I finished 3rd although my NW was below 70m...hmmm....decisions decisions decisions....

F and D should be close.

R would probably not be too far behind tho no one uses it. The -10% added to the low early income of farmer would make it harder to stay away from getting hit.

Dict has a slow start as well but the extra land gains and extra mil strength are quite strong on this server, even tho it cant match F/D for netting ime.

Most do go tech start. I'm one of the only ones that don't because I feel better using turns to explore and build cs rather than tech. It's very competitive though. I think you're much safer with tech start because you'll have high nw and low land. I tend to get hit a little early. On the plus side, I'm close to 10k acres before I start grabbing so I won't run out of targets as fast.
