I'm sure we would start Medlen of the one game playoff game. He has won his last 22 starts. You read that right, hasn't lost a start since 2009. He was out with Tommy johns last season. He has somethin like a 1.3 ERA this yer. He's our shut down one game pitcher IMO. However anything can happen in one game.

Wow.

I'm a bit less into baseball this year just due to my own time constraints, so I know jack fluff about any team other than the Cardinals this year (ya know, other than the obvious stuff, like Chipper Jones is still a Brave).

That sounds relatively scary, but you're right. Anything can happen in one game.

Braves just clinched a post season birth in a 9th inning walkoff homer by Freddie following a double by chipper. In addition meddling won his 22 start in a row and the nats are losing tonight, that would put the braves 4 games back with 8 games to play...... Wewt!

Magic Number for the Cards for the 2nd spot is 4.
Up 4.5 on both Milwaukee and the suddenly high budget Dodgers.

Looks like the NL Wild Card battle will be the same two teams fighting for the Wild Card last year. I'd cite how awesome the Cards are playing all the sudden, but I see Atlanta (just like St. Louis) is 8-2 in their last 10, so clearly that's a push.

It's an interesting matchup on paper, with Atlanta having a better record and St. Louis having a better run differential. I'm not shocked looking at team stats to see Atlanta is 4th in the NL in ERA and St. Louis is 2nd in the NL in runs.

I'm not worried about our offense at all going into the playoffs, but I'm very worried about the fact that we've got a bunch of guys who this year strike me as more #2-#4 type starters with no true ace, and we've got a closer who goes between being totally lights out and throwing batting practice.

Whoever wins the 1-game playoff (assuming no St. Louis collapse) I'm rooting for to win the NL.

Sad way for Chipper to end his career on a game that is at least marginally tainted due to a questionable call, not to mention the poor decisions of fans throwing garbage on the field.

Having said that, GO CARDS! 12 IN 12!

pitching has always been a braves strong point. we still have the best closer in baseball.

Interesting series they're in now, at least from the St. Louis perspective.

Looking at pitching matchups, I think Wainwright/Medlen favors St. Louis, Teheran/Miller is probably pretty much a push, but it seems like Shelby Miller's starting to come off his early season pedestal, so I'd probably give the edge slightly to Teheran, and then Minor/Lynn probably goes to Minor.

Then again, Atlanta has only been a slightly better than .500 team on the road and St. Louis needs these games a lot more than Atlanta does right now, considering the divisional races, with Atlanta up big and St. Louis in a 3-team race.

That'll happen. The Cardinals were already in a bit of a slide offensively before we met your Braves in Atlanta, but then Molina went on the DL and it got worse.

I still don't like today's matchup for my Cardinals, but then again, I guess if Atlanta can't muster any offense, doesn't really matter if Teheran's been a beast.

7 hours from braves opening game! braves signed some core players to long term deals this offseason, but our pitching rotation is banged up more than a vegas hooker. i still think we are a playoff team, and look forward to the next 7 months!

I'm terrified with the fact that the Cardinals seem to be pretty widely accepted as the #1 team going into the season. It just seems like the kiss of death.

It really does seem like we have all the pieces. A lot of young pitching. A pretty good offense -- although outside Holliday, I would say we don't have that one big bat that really scares anyone the way we used to with Pujols, and I don't think Holliday scares people in that way. But we (presumably) have good bats up and down the lineup.

Bullpen seems solid, but bullpens are hard to predict from year to year. I think Siegrist, Martinez, and Rosenthal's 95-101 mph fastballs should hold up and be effective, but bullpens really are so super impossible to predict.

I haven't paid attention to the Braves off season other than seeing they picked up Santana, which has to feel like a nice pickup. How's the offense and bullpen?

man, ill admit i was really nervous when we let 2 of our best pitchers go, and our 2 best young pitchers get hurt and out for the season before it started. it was looking pretty desperate. but jesus, i dont think i could of asked for a better start to the season. ESPECIALLY the pitchers.

braves are 1st in ERA and quality starts, and 2nd in WHIP and BAA. and their offense is 5th in slugging %

12-5 is a solid start, but the braves started off hot last year and fell off in may. lets see if they can keep it up. this starting rotation is NASTY, and we have mike minor, our young ace, making rehab starts in AAA right now.
