I have to agree that no matter the outcome, it'd be pretty cool if you could sell these on the market. That is, of course, with a strict (and very low) limit on how often you can purchase, or perhaps sell, them.

Yeah Galleri... I certainly mean no offense here, as I'm one to promote peace and love and all that horsefluff- I'm sure Soviet can attest to that after our conversations. I was the one on Collab's side that negotiated that policy change, and that was just simply due to some, well, oversights in our originally-pacted retal policy. We wanted to have some friendly grabs back and forth, but not have it so blatantly abusable as the pacted policy was turning out to be.

The policy this thread questions refers to the "Stocking" phase only, aka the last three weeks of the set. That's the part that didn't change.

I could have sworn I suggested this a while ago.... heh ;p

I still think the "auto-bonuses" are a great idea. The "booster packs" do have the whole disposable-income-ruined-the-game stigma attached to it. If you cared to go that way, then perhaps limit it. Say, that only once per set, you could donate $5 or whatnot, and get XYZ bonus points, a chunk of land, or some other one-time boost. It'd still give them an advantage(otherwise they wouldn't buy it), but it wouldn't force people to donate in order to remain competitive.

Anubis, I like the idea of having cross-set achievements or whatnot. The only thing I would stress is that this must NOT give any [dis]advantage to a particular clan for doing so. The last thing anyone needs is to give up entirely, or switch tags, because XYZ clan min/maxed their way into some bonus for the next few sets.

pang, yes, but it's mostly to do with seeing my coworkers, parents, friends, and sister incessantly clicking away at inane fluff in some FB game. I almost never see them touch the keyboard at all.

as for the JS thing, well, i dont see why that'd be necessary one bit... except for something like sliders for amounts, but that's a bit over the top, imo. before i'd want to see that, i'd rather see dropdowns with "normal" amounts: 10%, 25%, 33%, 100%, 10k, 100k, etc etc etc

Like I said in IRC, Qz... people don't like to type stuff. I suggest buttons for auto-population of cells.

Things like:

Sell max tech/military
Send X amount of military
Explore/cash with all(or maybe in increments) turns
build BPTs of land

etc etc...

People, especially facebook gamers, dont seem to enjoy using their keyboard for anything. They're used to a lot of clicking, though.

Well, you'd be the limiters in what's available to them. Say, some form of points system? Each feature has a set point value, and you may only spend X points in creating the set. Or, possibly something along the line of "if you choose X, then you cannot choose Y." Obviously you'd have direction in the process.

As far as changing the ruleset server-by-server, yeah, that'd be a pain, but I've a feeling (yes, given time that's not very abundant) if the idea was a hit, you could have some type of selection form written up to automatically generate the game, eliminating a bunch of the busywork from the process. I'm actually kinda suprised something like this isn't already in place on your back-end of things.

Like I said, though, just another random thought trying to help the game boost itself. Hell, once we're live on Facebook and we've got more than ~1000 active members again, you could probably sell off these raffle tickets for donation bucks :P

(if that's the case, though, i want a free set sometime... rofl)

Here's an idea... just popped into my head.

Let's say, every other month or so, every [willing] player gets added to a raffle pool. The winner of the raffle gets to decide on custom (within a range of selections, of course) rules for a set in a new game format. The rules would be limited of course, by you devs, so it doesn't dramatically fluff up the bandwidth or whatnot.

They could decide things such as:

--$2b bug enabled/disabled
--No allies
--Tags/No Tags allowed(and members per tag if so)
--Minutes per turn
--Set length
--forced GDI
--other more wild changes, like
----No LGs allowed (or no exploring allowed?)
----protection lasts a different amount of turns
----Military costs no upkeep
----Different "humanitarian" limitations
----fluffed if I know the amount of things that could be decided upon

Seems like I haven't seen a suggestion quite like this one, so I figured I'd share it.

What y'all think?

Hey guys, just wanted to mention that it probably looks detrimental to the attraction of new players, when it's almost been a year since the "latest news" update... I know a lot of stuff has actually been done since then, so why not give a summary of game changes since that update, and post that up as some news?

I've a feeling this is a much easier to accomplish suggestion than others around here :P

(also, did any other devs consider my patron status suggestion?)

That's true, but honestly, why would anyone (that isn't trying to get away with fluff they know would be looked upon as wrong by their clan heads) give two fluffs about this?

I think of it this way. Much like a real country, yes the sum is stronger than the individual. In most cases, the individual must give up some freedoms to be "part" of that country. Whether it be taxes, or information, or whatever else... It's never a 100% free ride.

Noone's saying that a clan leader (who typically works their ass off for your benefit) should get 5% of your public market income. They're getting information that allows them to be a better leader (for YOUR SAKE), and you have ZERO extra work to do for it.

I seem to recall somewhere in the past the devs trying to figure out a legitimate, while not game-breaking, reward for being a patron of EE.

I don't know if it's been brought up before, but what about an auto-bonus? Meaning, you receive your bonus points as soon as their respective timers have run their course.

You could also add in some form of stipulation (although I'd guess this would likely be a much larger pain in the ass to code) where you must vote on those respective websites within X time period to continue accumulating auto-points. The problem I see is as time moves on and your auto-bonus timer and voting timers start getting farther and farther apart. Shrug.

Have any of the devs considered this as a way for us to help out? I feel it'd be rather popular, without being drastically overpowered. As it is, I typically vote within about 2 hours from the timer being up... For argument's sake, consider all 3 sites 24-hour timers, and I vote every 26. That'd be approximatley 15 more votes(or ~40 points) than I'd be able to do manually.

That probably doesn't make any sense to anyone, but it's been lingering in my mind for a few sets now (and especially so since the bonus system revamp), and figured you guys could hash it out.

Murf, it's not necessarily a "trim the fat" issue... you just gotta cattle-prod the weak links and show them what they should be doing. That's not necessarily an easy task when in a full-blown war- It's a lot easier to take care of during an "easy" war, or what-have-you. I seriously doubt you've literally got drooling mouthbreathers who send GSes by rolling their face on the keyboard... They can be taught, when leadership (or whomever) has the chance to.

d20, forgive me if i misinterpreted, but you seem to be under the impression that our scattered ABs weren't well thought out. Our tactics were already putting a lot of economic pressures on their breakers. Doesn't it just make sense to reduce many of their countries' incomes to near-zero further amplify this strategy?

And yeah, Bobby, I agree about the production advantages. While weakening our standing for the start of the war, it's the whole reason we're able to continue to hit while some of the top sof countries are stuck in an unsustainable state. Hell, I had more cash and oil two days ago than I did at the start of the war :P

Overall, I think this is a great war. The outcome was definitely nowhere near certain, one side or the other. Kudos, SoF, for taking it so well ;p

Without reading all this trash... I went to an aviation class last winter. One of my classmates for the 6-week class was an ex-GM employee that accepted a layoff package. He had been an USAF air traffic controller for a number of years, but he was too old (32!) to even *apply* for a job in the private sector. That's off the point, but here's what he told me:

He was working as a GM forklift operator, with about five years experience. He got paid _$65_ _an_ _hour_. He worked three 8-hour shifts during the week, and every other Sunday, he worked a 12-hour shift at TRIPLE OVERTIME. That's $195 an hour, to wheel fluff around on a forklift. Not saying the job doesnt require some coordination, but that's fluffing outrageous. Even during the week, $65 is insane. I work in a very safety-sensitive high-up job in an airline, and make less than a third of that. I'd like more, but I'm happy knowing that my airline is one that's consistently made money over the last few years of troubles in aviation. I gladly don't fluff too much about pay raises, because I know we can currently sustain ourselves indefinitely. Much easier to sleep knowing your job's going to last than it is making a quick buck at the sake of being volatile.

On that subject, though... I might be pretty well fluffed if the feds drop Essential Air Service off the national budget, as well as probably a good 300 other employees in my company. That's not even mentioning the detriment to local economies when these small airports can no longer maintain a scheduled flight service.

Shrug, definitely sidetracked at the end... just my two cents.

Has anyone development-side ever considered adding a "difficulty factor" into grabs? Meaning, if you've got significantly less land (which I won't attempt to define) than your LG target, you've got a lesser chance (ditto) to succeed? I know there'd need to be serious tuning to work it out well, but that might stifle most of these "topfeed" arguments, while not outright destroying the ability to do so, nor seriously hurting the game.

Just curious, really.

I don't think you'd necessarily see any loss of shortages with a doubled playerbase. You'd also have to account for the doubled demand. The only thing it would do, is help stifle clan-based market buyouts, and that is worth the entire argument. Whether they're attempting to eliminate military as an anti-retaliatory tactic, or they're attempting to clear absurdly priced goods in an effort to "FA" a particular person(s), it would make it doubly difficult. That's a good thing.
